New Texas 130 Highway Speed Limit is Creating More Animal Accidents

The state of Texas recently approved an increased speed limit on their Highway 130, allowing drivers to travel at 85mph legally. According to reports this 41 mile stretch of highway is considered to be the fastest speed limit highway in the United States. Initially when the speed limit change was passed, there was a lot of concern with drivers and their own personal safety, especially truck drivers. Truck drivers claimed that their vehicles, due mainly to their weight, are much more difficult to bring to a stop, and when every car is traveling at these speeds, if there is ever an accident, coming to a complete stop will be much more challenging for the trucks.
Reports share that these speed limits are not only creating potential problems for the drivers and other vehicles, but also for the local animals. According to San Antonio News when the highway opened at the new speeds last week there were no reported accidents until the nightlife animals came out. They share that at hat time there were three animal related accidents, 2 hogs and 1 deer. Fortunately in these accidents the drivers remained uninjured, though at this time there has been no news as to whether or not the animals survived the incident.
The growing concern with these speed limits is the fact that if an animal comes out of nowhere and there is an animal, if they have no time to slow down the impact of a deer or a hog could be life threatening. While this new highway speed may have caused no deaths yet, it is a growing possibility that accidents may happen.
